Hi, I am Dr Gerrie Moolman! I am an Ear, Nose and Throat Specialist as well as a Head, Neck and Skull base Surgeon. I completed my studies at the University of Pretoria and I work at the new Cintocare Hospital in Menlyn Maine (Pretoria). Besides general ENT, I specialize in Skull base surgery (tumours at the floor of the brain), Head and neck surgery, Otology and Cochlear implant surgery.
What I really love about my work is the great range of problems I get to deal with. From children with tonsillitis or middle ear infection to microscopic surgery in the ear, or endoscopic sinus and nose work to large head, neck or skull base tumours. Some patients I get to treat medically and others surgically. So, I get to work as a medical doctor as well as a surgeon.
I have been part of the Ear Institute Cochlear Implant team since 2009, and it has been a privilege to make a difference in the lives of patients with severe hearing disabilities.

Procedures We Specialise In
Besides general ENT conditions, underneath are more complicated / advanced conditions or surgeries that I specialise in.
Skull Base Surgery
Surgical removal of tumours or lesions at the floor of the skull. Anterior lesions approached via the nose, lateral lesions approached via the ear or neck.
Otology
Management of complicated ear cases, like CSF leaks, tumours, large cholesteatomas, ossiculoplasty, stapedotomy and revision surgery.
Salivary Gland Surgery
Surgical management of diseases (stones, tumours) of the parotid, submandibular, sublingual or minor salivary glands.
Head and Neck Surgery
Management of tumours of the nasopharynx, mouth, oropharynx, larynx/ trachea, hypopharynx, neck and thyroid.
Cochlear Implants
Surgical implantation of a small electronic device to restore hearing in a profoundly deaf person.
Facial Nerve Surgery
Exploration of nerve, decompression, repair of facial nerve (anastomosis, grafting or facial-hypoglossis anastomosis).
Paediatric Sinus Surgery (FESS)
Surgery for choanal atresia, sinusitis, congenital abnormalities, tumours like juvenile angiofibroma.
Complicated Functional Endoscopic Sinus Surgery (FESS)
Revision surgery, frontal sinus drill out, CSF leaks, tumours, orbital decompression etc.
Laryngoplasty
Vocal cord medialization for vocal cord palsy, vocal cord lateralisation, lowering or increasing the pitch (tone) of the voice.
Swallowing Disorders
Management of hypo pharyngeal webs or Zenker diverticulum (CO2 laser, Coblation or external approach)
Glomus Tumor
Glomus tumors or paragangliomas, are slow growing, highly vascular (usually benign) tumors in the major blood vessels or nerves of the neck, middle ear or skull base
Management of Upper Airway Problems
Stridor or airway obstruction from laryngeal or tracheal stenosis, papillomas, tracheomalacia, tracheo-esophageal fistula or tumours.
